EAST MIDLANDS SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AWARDS (EMSTAs)

We are pleased to announce that EMDA have provided £600,000 to fund “East Midlands Science and Technology Awards” (EMSTAs). These awards are to attract potential students from widening participation backgrounds, resident in the East Midlands, to read certain Science and Technology subjects in an East Midlands HEI.
*What are EMSTAs? *
EMSTA Awards are financial support for selected students (see below), from the region, accepted on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) full-time undergraduate degree courses in the East Midlands. Two hundred scholarships of £3,000 (£1,000 per year for three years of undergraduate study) have been made available. In 2007 there were over 70 scholarships awarded, and approximately 125 will be available for entry in 2008.
The aims are as follows:
- to encourage groups currently under-represented in STEM subjects to apply for and complete courses at the region’s higher education institutions
- to improve the skills profile of the region’s labour market and to support learners in remaining in STEM related employment in the East Midlands after graduation

Physical sciences (including chemistry)
Mathematical sciences
Computer science
Engineering and technology
Education Studies with Science
Education Studies with Maths
